Chalcomitra senegalensis

The Scarlet-chested Sunbird is found over most of sub-Saharan Africa. In South Africa it can be found from northern KwaZulu-Natal to Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

The male Scarlet-chested Sunbird has striking plumage. The female is far more drab.

They can be found in savanna, woodland and gardens.

The Scarlet-chested Sunbird mainly feeds on nectar but will also eat insects and spiders.

The female builds the nest hanging from a branch or twig. Up to 3 eggs are laid.
