Emberiza flaviventris

The Golden-breasted Bunting is found in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa. In South Africa it is found in most of the eastern and northern portions of the country.

It is found in woodland and savanna and other more open bushveld areas.

Seeds form the major portion of the Golden-breasted Buntings diet but it does eat some insects.

They make a nest in a fork in a bush or tree. Up to 5 eggs are laid.

The Golden-breasted Bunting is a beautiful and attractive bird. It can often be seen alongside the road in bushveld game reserves although it tends to keep its back towards you.
