Grootvlei Pass connects towns such as Kamieskroon on the inland plateau with those along the coastal belt such as Hondeklipbaai.

The pass is very steep in parts but, even though it is a gravel road, it is normally passable by all vehicles. Some vehicles may struggle a bit after winter rains.

This short pass is only around 4 km in length and during that time drops 277 metres. In parts the gradient is 1:5.

Grootvlei Pass is located in Namaqualand that gives you a big clue as to when is the best time to visit. Yes, it is when the spring flowers are in bloom. In August and September each year the otherwise barren landscape because covered with colourful flowers.
