The Wildebeest's Review of "Butterflies of Southern Africa" by Germishuys
The author of “Butterflies of Southern Africa” describes these beautiful creatures as “the perfect insect.” That’s an interesting comment and, whether you agree with it or not, you must admit that the world is a prettier place because of their existence.
This 87-page book makes a good place for any nature lover to start getting to know and identify some of the commoner butterflies. Only 42 species are included meaning it is not very comprehensive, but the species accounts are good, and the colour photographs are fantastic.
I believe that it is always good to have multiple books on a subject so, even if you have a more comprehensive guide these “perfect insects”, you will find that it is useful to refer to this book to add extra information when trying to identify one of southern Africa’s butterflies.
