The Wildebeest's Review of SA 4x4 Magazine - Volume 24 Number 10

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

The cover of the October 2016 issue of SA 4x4 highlights articles on the Richtersveld and southern Mozambique as well as a number of reviews and technical information.

One thing I enjoy about this magazine is its readers letters. That are quite inciteful and the authors of these letters are not shy to highlight bad behaviour by other 4x4 owners and offer a lot of useful information about their 4x4 experiences.

Kubu Island is legendary in 4x4 circles and a double-page article by a reader details the experiences of author Carine Reyneke. Following this is a review of the impressive Ford Ranger 2.2 litre Auto bakkie. Ford are bound to improve their market share with the various models in this range. I bet that numerous readers will take a close look at the Fiat Fullback which is reviewed later in the mag. It comes in a bit cheaper than the Ford equivalent and much cheaper than the Toyota model. Will the Fiat find a place in the hearts of South Africans? Time will tell.

I enjoyed the article on the Wagon Wheel 4x4 trail in the Karoo. This trail crosses some scenic but rugged hillsides and has some grade 5 obstacles to test you and your vehicles toughness. The Richtersveld is another place to escape the crowds and there is an interesting article on a visit to this north-western part of South Africa.

As usual there is plenty of good reading in the magazine and it will definitely give you some ideas on where to go for your next trip.
