The Wildebeest's Review of "Wild Issue 40"
The cover of the latest edition of Wild magazine features some people riding through a forest on some sort of scooter with oversized tyres. I must admit that it looks fun, but it is not for me! I like to have binoculars and/or camera ready for whatever interesting creature or plant that you may encounter next. I have just noticed that the main article in this copy of Wild is on “thrills for adrenalin junkies.” That is not me although I do, like most other birders, get a real kick out of seeing a new bird.
The article on the Swellendam Hiking Trail was great and it is accompanied by some amazing photos of the scenery and plant life. From the physical challenge of a long hike, you are brought back home with an article on photographing insects. I must admit that this is something that I enjoy doing as there are insects literally anyway. You don’t even have to leave home. This may not be true if you live in a high-rise apartment when you would probably be looking for an insecticide, rather than a camera, if you found an insect colony in your nice clean flat.
