The Wildebeest's Review of Ocean Birds
The description on the inside of the of the dust jacket begins with “this book is a fascinating and thorough account of the biology and ecology of ocean birds.” I couldn’t agree more.
The author, Lars Lofgren, spent 10 years at sea as a merchant marine officer which is where he grew to love and appreciate these rather special birds. They may not be colourful, but they are amazing in many other ways.
The book is jam packed with colour photos, informational text, maps and infographics. The standard of the photography is generally high. There are a few grainy or poorly lit photos in the collection but this understandable when trying to photograph uncommon species at sea.
This is a book that one can keep referring back to over and over again. There is a tremendous amount of information in it that will be of use to scholar and layman alike.
