The Wildebeest's Review of "Gardening with Birds"
“Gardening with Birds” has been produced in the same format as “Meeting with Birds” by the same author. It is a small, square book that is easy to read and absorb.
The first chapter focuses on types of bird feeder as well as other places to place food for them. What’s nice is that plans and instructions are included on how to make most of them. That is very useful, and I am sure that numerous readers will try this.
Chapter 2 examines what types of food should be offered during the different seasons. It explains how one can buy or make food, but it is also useful to grow plants that will also provide food. Next up is more detail on the types of plants to grow and that is followed by plans to build a pond. Chapter 5 explains how you can provide nesting spaces for various types of birds. When a bird nests in your garden that is the ultimate compliment to you.
The next chapter pulls all the above together and explains how one can create a complete habitat within the available space. Further chapters deal with topics beyond your boundary walls and how to enjoy the bird life in your garden.
Although there are plenty of line drawings, and some colour photos, this book doesn’t give much information on the birds themselves and it is definitely not an identification guide.
