The Wildebeest's Review of Getaway Magazine - Volume 31 Number 5
The August issue of Getaway magazine is packed with information as usual. Where to start? Bela-Bela is a good place particularly as it is very convenient for those of us who call Gauteng our home.
Bela-Bela and the surrounding region offer a number of great escapes from the hustle and bustle of city life. Most of the accommodation mentioned is found in the surrounding private game farms and there are some great ones to choose from. The prices are a little on the high side, but luxury does come at a price.
I found the article on a Western Cape road trip very interesting. It loosely follows the places described by Lady Anne Barnard in her journal from 1978. The quotes from the journal will definitely put a smile on your face.
Luangwa, in Zambia, is world-renowned for its wildlife and the article by David Rogers certainly does it justive. The photo of the Southern Carmine Bee-eaters at their nesting holes is absolutely stunning.
Mpumalanga is blessed with plenty of accommodation options for travellers but often the focus is on those in or near the game reserves. It was therefor refreshing to read the article on waterside campsites. From a trout farm to a mountain bike park there is something for everyone.
