The Wildebeest's Review of Proteas for Pleasure
I recently came across a copy of this book that was originally published in 1965. It contains a wealth of information on this special family of plants.
The book covers a wide variety of topics starting with the scientific aspects of their names. After that there are chapters on the cultivation of proteas. These include growing proteas, cultivation around the world, propagation, choosing plants, landscape design and, of course, proteas as cut flowers.
The second section of the book contains species write-ups and photos of various protea species. The text is informative and includes details of the flower and features of the shrub itself. Some details relevant to cultivation are also included. The full-page colour photographs focus on the flower and are of good quality.
Overall, this book deserves a place on the bookshelves of gardeners and nature lovers alike.
