The Wildebeest's Review of Wild Magazine - Issue 16

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

The Spring 2011 issue of Wild Magazine features a mother Vervet Monkey with her baby on the cover. I must admit that I am a fan of these cute creatures and enjoy having them visit my garden in Durban on a daily basis. Of course, they can be a real nuisance, but we have learned to keep kitchen doors and windows closed to make sure we don’t have any unwelcome visitors.

I haven’t been to De Hoop Nature Reserve and the article on this special place really made me jealous. Imagine a sighting of 72 Southern Right Whales! Well, that’s what the author experienced. Apparently, there is much more to see than whales including Cape Cobras, Eland and Oystercathers. Something for everyone.

The article on unfenced camps in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is an enjoyable read. It’s amazing that in this overcrowded world there are still so many places where one can enjoy total solitude.

The article on crocodiles features some great photographs and is an interesting read. Turn to page 42 for great photographs of insects and other creatures enjoying a meal of pollen.

Thanks to the Wild Magazine team for another great issue. I am looking forward to the next one.
