The Wildebeest's Review of SA Country Life Issue 281

What would a December edition of SA Country Life magazine be without a section of Christmas ideas. I head off to page 14 straight away to see what the latest must have items are. Unfortunately, nothing really catches my eye so I might be at risk of getting socks for Christmas (again). I wonder what I have done with last year’s socks.

Next my attention is drawn to the article on Mbuluzi Game Reserve in Swaziland. Despite not having the big 5 this reserve is worth a visit, particularly for birders. The article on Lions River catches my eye next. I have driven past this village many times and never stopped to see what’s there. It turns out that is worth spending a bit of time here and I will most certainly do it when next I am in the KZN midlands.

Obie Oberholzer is an extremely talented travel writer and the story that he paints about the town of Philippolis is no exception. Following this article is one on the spirit of a Karoo Christmas. Just glancing at the photos will make you feel some Christmas joy or, at least, bring a smile to your face.
