The cover of the latest issue of The Gardener South Africa magazine is adorned with a close-up of a Hibiscus flower. The magazine calls them the “queen of flowers” and it is hard to argue against that point. There are plenty of photos of new varieties accompanying the article on Hibiscus.

Planting gardens on top of roofs of office blocks and flats seems to be becoming more and more common. It is a great way to make use of some otherwise wasted space. Get it designed well with pathways and cool spots and it will provide a great place for people to escape the concrete jungle even if it is only for a lunch break.

Do you get Hadeda’s in your garden? Love them or hate them they are hard to ignore. Read an article on them starting in page 60. There is no doubt that the flower of Disa woodii is stunningly beautiful. Read more about this plant in the “Pretty Peculiar” series.

Overall another great magazine for garden lovers with plenty for us lovers of indigenous gardens to take note of.
