The Wildebeest's Review of "African Wildlife - Vol 37 No 6"
A great photo of a Yellow-striped Reed-frog adorns the cover of this issue of African Wildlife magazine. After an article on the De Hoop Nature Reserve there is an interesting article by Gordon Maclean entitled “Convergent Evolution in Birds – Chance or Design.” It has always intrigued me as to how our Yellow-throated Longclaw is so similar in looks to the “Eastern Meadowlark” found in the USA.
A sad article discusses the life of one of Kruger National Parks great tuskers. “Mafunyane” had a really magnificent pair of tusks. This special elephant was found dead in 1983.
If you ever thought that frogs were charming, friendly creatures then you should read the article on territorial behaviour in bullfrogs. The great photo sequence illustrates how aggressive these large amphibians can be.
