Chelmsford Nature Reserve is situated 26 km from Newcastle on the road to Ladysmith. The nature reserve surrounds the Ntshingwayo Dam which is on the iNgagane River.

One of the main attractions at Chelmsford Nature Reserve is fishing in Ntshingwayo Dam. It is a well-known fishing destination and Barbel, Carp and Scaly are the main fish that are caught. The dam is also used for boating and a variety of other watersports

The nature reserve is home to various antelope including Oribi, Springbok, Red Hartebeest and Blesbok. It is also provides good bird-watching opportunities.

The accommodation options are 5 chalets and two camp sites which can accommodate around 150 people. A few basic provisions are available at the reception office.

Chelmsford Nature Reserve is administered by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
