Rufous-naped Lark

Mirafra africana

The Rufous-naped Lark is a common bird in suitable habitat. It favours grassland and savanna.

This bird has a rufous crest which it raises when calling. It can often be seen calling from low perches.

The Rufous-naped Lark is up to 18 cm in length. Their main food is insects although they do eat some seeds as well.

Sexes are similar. They make their nest in grass or shrubbery and the nest is lined with grass. The eggs are heavily speckled brown.

In South Africa it is found in pretty much most of South Africa. Beyond South Africa it occurs up to Kenya and Tanzania.
