The New Germany Nature Reserve is a small reserve that on top of some hills in New Germany near Pinetown. The habitat in the reserve is a mix of grassland and coastal forest. It is 110 hectares in extent.
The reserve features quite a good list of bird species and it is also known for its wild flowers in spring. Some small mammals are present including Blue Duiker, Grey Duiker and Impala.
There used to be a large aviary, at the entrance to the reserve, which housed many species of indigenous birds. There is also a small museum-type display at the entrance as well as various live snakes in tanks.
Entrance to the reserve is free and there are some picnic areas, overlooking the reserve, near the gates.

There used to be a superb aviary at the entrance to the reserve. This photo shows a Knysna Lourie flying in the spacious aviary.
