Hartbeespoort
Afrikaans name: Hartbeespoort
Hartbeespoort on the shores on Hartbeespoort Dam
North West
The town of Hartbeespoort is a 'resort' town that is sandwiched between the Magaliesberg Mountains and Hartbeespoort Dam. Some of the houses in the town are used permanently but many others are holiday homes. Over the weekends the town fills up with visitors from nearby Gauteng.
One of the main attractions in the area, besides the dam, is the cableway. In 2010 the cableway was totally refurbished and is the longest monocableway in Africa.
Other attractions in the area include trips into the nearby mountains, golf, a snake park, aquarium, elephant sanctuary and a monkey sanctuary. Horse rides are also available.
It is a popular place to live as one can escape the big city life but still work in either Pretoria or Johannesburg.
