Boksburg, along with lots of other Gauteng towns and cities, was founded after gold was discovered in the area. Although the gold deposits were not as lucrative as many others there is still active mines. Coal has also been mined here for many years. Today the focus is more on manufacturing and other industries.
There are a number of historical buildings in the city including some of the hotels. For instance the Angelo Hotel dates back to 1887.
Boksburg caters for a high number of visitors and there are many accommodation options to choose from. Depending on your budget and requirements you can stay in hotels, lodges, guest houses and B&B's.
A popular spot for visitors and locals alike is the Boksburg Lake. Besides the pleasant scenery one can participate in boating, hiking, fishing and other types of watersport. Golfers will enjoy a round on either the Benoni Lake Golf Club or ERPM Golf Course. Kids will enjoy a trip to Bokkie Park.
