The Wildebeest's Review of The Natal Bushveld - Volume 1

It has been a long time since this book was published! It was volume 1 of a set of 3 if my memory serves me correct.

Volume 1 covers landforms and vegetation with the bulk of the book dedicated to vegetation, more specifically trees and grasses. The format is simple with a simple line drawing on one page and some text on the other.

The information for the trees is a mix of points plus text. Details of features such as height, shape, bark, wood, leaves, flowers and fruits are provided.

The section on landforms is very short and covers some arbitrary events in the geological timeline. I would have thought that it provided more information about things that affect the natural topography of the province now known as KwaZulu-Natal.

This is a useful little book and is small and light enough to carry in a pocket. The line drawings are useful and should aid you in identifying some of the more common trees in the province.
