The Wildebeest's Review of Caravan and Outdoor Life - Issue 644

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

“Build your own canoe” teases the cover of the latest issue of Caravan and Outdoor Life. That is certainly not something I would try. In fact, it would really be interesting to know how many readers undertake the project.

Well, once you have built your canoe, you can take it to the Richtersveld and try it out on the scenic Gariep River. The Richtersveld is a fascinating but harsh environment. Ideally one should go when the spring flowers are in bloom.

I skip past the article on building a canoe to the review of the Abba Camper. Mounted on the back of a bakkie this camper gives you a lot of storage space as well as a queen size bed. It looks really convenient. My only concern with these and other similar campers is that you have to pack it up if you want to drive somewhere.

If you are going on a camping trip to Namibia, try and include Shark Island in your itinerary. There is plenty of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area.
