The Wildebeest's Review of Getaway Magazine - Volume 31 Number 6

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

The September 2019 issue promises to reveal to us 7 secret Eastern Cape parks. That sounds interesting to me, so I head there straight away. I was assuming that Addo and the Mountain Zebra National Parks weren’t regarded as secret, and I was correct. These are 7 other parks offering game viewing in a variety of locations, albeit with some hefty price tags!

Have you heard of “fatbiking?” Get your fishing rod and go fatbiking along the beach. Looks interesting.

The article on the wild horses in Namibia is sad and concerning but at least the problem of predation has been recognised and actions are being taken. I think that it is worth preserving these horses for future generations.

It is unfair of Getaway to put a recipe for waffles with “stroopwafel”, caramel and apple on page 53 and a great article on a hike through Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve on page 54. These two pages definitely reflect on the best of two different worlds.

As usual there are plenty of other features to enjoy in this issue. I am off to show my wife the waffle recipe.
