The Wildebeest's Review of Gamebirds and Waterfowl of Southern Africa

This collectible book only has one purpose. That is to celebrate the work of renowned bird artist Claude Gibney Finch-Davies. I don’t want to take anything away from Dr Kemp who wrote the text, but the colour plates are the main attraction.

The book starts with a comprehensive biography of Finch-Davies, written by Dr Kemp, which is an interesting read in itself.

The rest of the book is dedicated to the 68 colour plates depicting the ducks, francolin, bustards, korhaans, snipe, dikkop, sandgrouse and pigeons. Most species have one full-page colour painting, but others have more than one. Apparently, these are the only Finch-Davies bird paintings with coloured backgrounds as he normally did the backgrounds in pencil.

The book is beautifully produced and comes in a slipcase. It’s definitely one to add to your library.
