The Wildebeest's Review of SA Country Life Issue 222

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

It’s the new year and that brings a new copy of SA Country Life to my desk. Will this month’s edition inspire me to visit new places in our beautiful country? Let’s see.

Browsing the contents page, I see an article on Umlalazi. I have been there many times and always enjoy it. Does the article match my memories? Yes, there it is. The lagoon, the palms and the beautiful beach. The article does do it justice and gives me a twinge of regret that I now live further from it than I used to.

I love quaint towns and Steytlerville fits that description. It is “town of the month” in this issue and highlights the arts, nostalgia and rural community that brings this town to life. Are their hippos in the Karoo? Apparently, there are. Fascinating.

There is lots more of interest in this month’s edition and, yes, I do feel inspired to visit some new destinations this year. Perhaps I will get back to Umlalazi as well.
