The Wildebeest's Review of "African Wildlife - Vol 39 No 4"
After taking in the cover of a magazine I like to browse through the contents page to see what interesting articles are to be found inside. The cover of this issue of African Wildlife features the spring flowers for which South Africa is world-renowned. The contents page reveals that the magazine offers an assortment of articles from the flowers, millipedes, rinkhals and more. Sounds interesting.
I must also mention that I really enjoy the butterfly and plant plates sponsored by Avis. I am not sure who the artist is normally but, in this issue, it is Ernest Forbes and I love his work.
After the spring flower article, which is richly illustrated, there is one on oil-collecting bees. I have not heard of such a thing. The article then refers to them as “solitary bees” which is a term that I am familiar with. Why do these bees need “oil”? You will need to read the article to find out.
As usual the photos included in the National Wildlife Salon are fantastic. Can a Rinkhals fit in a beer can? Yes, it can. Once it is in, can it get out? The answer to that is no. A short article describing such an incident was very interesting.
I enjoyed this issue of the magazine. Keep up the good work team!
