Namaqualand is actually a region of land stretching for 1000 km up the west coast of South Africa into Namibia. The Orange River splits Namaqualand into two parts. South of the Orange River is known as Little Namaqualand while the northern part, which is in Namibia, is known as the Great Namaqualand.

The region is typically arid and sparsely populated. Namaqualand is known for its diamonds, fishing along the West Coast and, of course, flowers.

In early spring large portions of Namaqualand become carpeted with beautiful flowers. It only lasts a short time but the spectacle brings people from far and wide.

Are you a regular visitor to Namaqualand? What is the attraction?
