North West

If it wasn’t for the fact that Molopo Nature Reserve is situated on the perimeter of South Africa you could easily say it is situated in the middle of nowhere. It is in the North West Province on the border with Botswana. It may only be 7 km from the village of Vostershoop but there is nothing else for many a kilometre.

The reserve comprises of thornveld and Kalahari grassland. It is a very arid.

Molopo Nature Reserve was created in 1987 and the game had to be restocked. Since then herds of Gemsbok, Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Waterbuck, Eland and more have been established. Predators that may possibly be seen include Cheetah, Caracal, Brown Hyena, Black-backed Jackal, Small-spotted Genet and others. The bird list is not extensive but raptors take pride of place.

There are camping facilities in the park which are very cheaply priced. A great feature is that permission may be sought to drive around after dark.
