Springbok - a town serving farms and mines
Afrikaans name: Springbok (dorp)

Northern Cape
Springbok is the largest of the towns in Namaqualand. In 1852 the land was bought for the establishment of a copper mine and in 1862 the town was founded. In its early years it was called Springbokfontein.
The town is surrounded by low hills, the most well-known of which is Klipkoppie which was used as a defensive position by the Boers in the Second Boer War.
Springbok still serves mines and farms in the area and also attracts some tourists. The old mining town of Nababeep is 20 km away and is a popular stop for wild-flower tours in Spring.
