KwaZulu-Natal

If looking at large reptiles with huge teeth appeals to you then you are going to love Crocworld, near Scottburgh on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. It is around 50 km south of Durban.

Crocworld provides an interesting and informative display of Nile Crocodiles and other animals. You are able to wander between the large enclosures and get good views of the crocodiles. Don’t miss the crocodile feeding time when these large creatures suddenly become active. Crocworlds star croc is a monster called Henry. It weighs 500kg, is 5 metres in length and was 117 years old in 2018.

Besides crocodiles there are displays of other reptiles, birds and amphibians. Crocworld is quite a good spot for birding as it was built in an area of coastal forest. There is a trail where one can walk through some of the forest. There are also caged birds and a duck pond. A number of snakes are on display and on certain days you can get up close to them while listening to a snake handling expert. Younger kids will enjoy the small animal farm and playground.

There is a restaurant on site where, amongst more traditional menu items, crocodile is served. Enjoy a view over the Indian Ocean while you eat your meal.

Claire, March 2023: Visiting Crocworld was a very interesting experience! You never truly realise just how big crocodiles are until you see them up close! Would definitely recommend visiting here with your family as there is something for everyone.
