The Eye of Kuruman is a tranquil place

The Eye of Kuruman is a natural spring around which the town of Kuruman has developed. The spring, which is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, delivers around 20 million litres of water a day. What is also amazing is that the water is clean and crystal clear.

The spring provides water for the town as well as local irrigation projects and it flows even when the surrounding areas of experiencing droughts.

The area around The Eye has been developed into a park and provides a wonderful setting to enjoy some peace.

The dam that has formed around The Eye is home to various types of fish the most interesting of which is a type of cichlid known as Pseudocrenilabrus philander. Its common name is the Southern Mouth Brooder.
