Park Rynie was established in 1857. It is named after Renetta Hoffman, nicknamed Rynie, who was wife of one of the local landowners. It is a small town and is situated just south of Scottburgh.
The beach at Park Rynie is beautiful and attracts a lot of tourists. The beaches also offer good scuba diving and fishing. The best fishing spots in the area are Granite Rocks and Rocky Bay. If you feel like spending some time away from the beach then you can take a drive inland to Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve. If you are into birding or trees then you will enjoy a walk around T.C. Robertson Nature Reserve at Scottburgh. For the more adventurous one can organise to go shark-cage diving from Rocky Bay.
During World War 1 there was a whaling station at Rocky Bay. Today all that is left is the Rocky Bay pier and the slipway which is now used by fishing boats.
If you are looking for accommodation then Caravan Cove and Rocky Bay Resort are popular caravan parks in the area. Rocky Bay Resort also offers accommodation in rustic log cabins.
