On Paarl Mountain, overlooking the city, there stands the impressive Afrikaans Language Monument. It was built in 1975 and was designed to celebrate the Afrikaans language and to acknowledge the other languages that influenced it.

The architect that designed it was Jan van Wijk.

The grounds surrounding the monument are a peaceful place to visit or to explore the surrounding mountains. Some rereshments are available at the coffee shop.

There are two amphitheaters that are used for various events and can be hired out by the public.
