The Wildebeest's Review of First Field Guide to Animal Tracks of SA

“First Field Guide to Animal Tracks of Southern Africa” is the latest in the “First Field Guide” series published by Struik. I really enjoy these small, reasonably priced books on southern Africa’s flora and fauna.
Animal tracks are an interesting field of study but, to be honest, it is something that I have never mastered. If you visit any game reserve, you will plenty of tracks in the sand and mud but to identify them is a challenge. That is what this book tries to solve.
Each species covered is illustrated in colour and has a distribution map. There are some general notes on the habits and description and some comments on their spoor. Lastly, there is a drawing of the spoor and indication of the real life size of the spoor. The back cover includes a ruler to aid you in measuring the size of the spoor that you find.
Overall, this is a nice book and a good addition to any wildlife enthusiast’s library.
