The Wildebeest's Review of The Rare Birds of Southern Africa

This book is a monster size being in large format with just over 500 pages! Inside are write-ups, maps and colour plates on over 74 bird species categorised as rare in Southern Africa.
Dr. Clancey has a unique style of painting birds, and it probably doesn’t appeal to everyone. The paintings are bold, colourful and have a tremendous amount of detail in them. The birds and the background fill the page. Another feature of his artwork is that he invariably includes more than one bird in the picture. I enjoy flipping through this book and taking a good long look at each plate.
There is also plenty of informative text and a large distribution map for each species.
This is a really good book, and I think that it is set to become collectible in future.
