The Wildebeest's Review of "World Birds"

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

Did you know that there was a Guinness records book for birds? Now it doesn’t tell you that Grannies budgie Dicky could say seven words and that Uncle Tobies rooster had the loudest crowing on record. The book focuses more on birds at family level rather than individuals.

For example, the Common Swift is the most aerial landbird and can stay on the wing for up to three years. That is impressive! I found out that South America has over 2,500 bird species which makes it the richest bird region in the world. Megapodes can build a nest up to 11 metres in diameter and up to five metres in height. Amazing.

Wait, maybe Grannies budgie is in here. I see that the London Zoo’s Sulphur-crested Cockatoo named Cocky lived for over 80 years. “Prudle”, an African Grey Parrot, could say 800 words. Dicky is going to need to read the dictionary to catch up!

“World Birds” is predominantly text but there are quite a few colour and black and white illustrations. It is a good book to flip through and read a few facts as it has some great information in it.
