Trachyphonus vaillantii

The Crested Barbet is an oddly coloured bird with splashes of red, black, white and yellow.

It has a large bill which it uses to eat fruit, insects and birds eggs.

Crested Barbets may be seen singly or in pairs. In suitable habitat they are quite common and make their presence known with their trilling call that goes on and on.

They are found in a variety of habitats including gardens, savannah, forest edges and woodland.

They lay up to 5 eggs in a hole in a tree or a log. Both parents tend to the young.
