Where is Port Edward?

Port Edward is the most southerly town on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. It is separated from the Eastern Cape by the Mtamvuna River.

There is a wide variety of accommodation in and around Port Edward. This ranges from hotels, to B&B's, self-catering and more.

What to do in Port Edward

Visitors are attracted to the area for a number of reasons. Firstly, the beach and surf fishing are major attractions as well as the Wild Coast Sun Casino and Hotel which is just across the river. One can participate in various water sports on the Mtamvuna River or go for walks in the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve.

There are numerous other places, especially beaches, to explore between Port Edward and Margate.

There are a number of great spots for rock and surf fishing, including "The Gully", "Suicide Rocks", "Black Rock", "Splash Rock" and "Spiros". Fish caught from these spots include Kingfish, King Mackerel (also known as Couta), Kob, Garrick, Shad, Blacktail, Karanteen, Dusky Shark and Sandsharks.

History of Port Edward

The village was originally founded in 1925 and was named after the Prince of Wales at the time who went on to become King Edward VIII.
