Limpopo
The town of Phalaborwa is most often associated with mining activity and iron and copper have been mined in the region since 400 A.D.
Today the mining has created the widest man-made hole in Africa. The open pit mine is almost 2 km wide.
Phalaborwa is also known for the surrounding private game reserves and being on the western border of the Kruger National Park.
Other tourist attractions include the Hans Merensky Golf Course and boat cruises on the Olifants River. Many of Mpumalanga and Limpopos tourist attractions can be reached with a few hours drive.
