Western Cape

Riversdale is a small town that is named after former magistrate Harry Rivers, who went on to become the Cape Colonial Treasurer.

The area around Riversdale is known for its spring flowers. The area to the north of the town normally puts on a good display in spring. Once can also visit the Jurisch Park Wild Flower garden which features aloes, mesembryanthemums and others.

Riversdale has also many old buildings which are of interest. There is also the Julius Gordon Africana Centre which has displays of items from the area as well as art work by Pieter Wenning and Thomas Baines.

Nature lovers will also enjoy a visit to the Werner Frehse Game Reserve which is nearby. Besides the diverse plant life there are also Eland, Gemsbok and other antelope.
