The Wildebeest's Review of "Butterfly Gardening in South Africa"

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

The concept of gardening for butterflies may be strange to many people but, in a way, it is not different from feeding and attracting birds to your garden.

This is a pretty book that is filled with colourful artwork of butterflies, plants and more. The presentation is really different from most other current nature books which use photos and a rigid format. “Butterfly Gardening in South Africa” really looks like it has been put together with love.

Obviously, one needs to provide food for butterflies in your garden if you want to attract these beautiful insects. To do this one needs to include the right plants in one’s garden and quite a lot of the book is dedicated to plants that fulfil this purpose.

The last part of the book is dedicated to the butterflies themselves. Each species is illustrated and something that I think is a nice feature is that the plants that they are on are identified as well. There are accompanying notes for both plants and butterflies.

I think that this is a great publication and is a must for gardeners who are interested in attracting nature into their gardens.
