Weenen Game Reserve is situated 8 km from the town of Weenen and approximately 30 km from Estcourt. It is 6,500 ha in size and was established in 1975.

The main habitat is thornveld but there are large areas of savanna grasslands as well. The area is quite hilly in places.

Accommodation is quite limited in the game reserve but there is a basic campsite at the entrance gate and one cottage in the middle of the reserve.

The road network consists of about 30 km of dirt roads.

A number of species of mammals are found in the reserve including Black and White Rhinos, Red Hartebeest, Giraffe, Burchell's Zebra, Kudu, Warthog and Reedbuck. Over 250 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve.

Although one must stay in ones car while driving around Weenen Game Reserve there are two picnic sites and two short walking trails.

Weenen Game Reserve is administered by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

What great sightings have you had at Weenen Game Reserve?
