Mtunzini is a small coastal village that isn't really on the coast. It is separated from the sea by the Umlalazi Nature Reserve.

The town is situated approximately 140 km north of Durban and is just off the N2 highway.

Attractions around the town include a golf course, beautiful beaches, bird-watching, hiking and fishing.

On the outskirts of the town is the Rafia Palm 'Monument'. This is a small plantation of these large palm trees which take 20 years to produce fruit and then die. The Rafia Palms attract the Palm-nut Vulture which in turn attracts numerous bird-watchers to the region.

There is a trail through the dense coastal forest which is great for walks and bird-watching.

The Umlalazi Lagoon is a scenic place to have a picnic.
