Western Cape

Knysna is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is set on a lagoon in a beautiful part of the country.

Knysna has had an interesting history since the arrival of European settlers from 1760. The natural resources in the area include timber and, at one stage, gold mining.

The Knysna River flows into the Knysna Lagoon before passing through "The Heads" and flowing into the Indian Ocean.

The climate is quite pleasant which makes it appealing to both tourists and those looking for a quiet place for their retirement.

In mid-winter the Knysna Oyster Festival is held.
