Western Cape

Caledon is a town in the Overberg area of the Western Cape province of South Africa. The area has had settlers since 1797 when a bath house was built.

One of the major attractions in Caledon is the warm mineral springs which deliver a million litres of water a day at a temperature of 65 degrees Celsius. The water is rich in iron which gives it a brown colouration.

Agriculture plays a major part in the towns existence with maize, beef and canola being the main products.

Tourist attractions in and around Caledon include the Caledon Spa and Casino and the Caledon Museum. The museum houses collections of items from Caledon's history in various historic buildings in the the town.

Nature lovers will enjoy the Caledon Wild Flower Garden (Venster Kloof Botanical Garden) which offers some hiking trails. One can also drive The Blue Crane Route. There are also zip lines and quad trails for the more adventurous.

There is a wide variety of accommodation in Caledon. These include the Casino, bed and breakfast and farm stayovers.
