Inanda Dam
Afrikaans name: Inanda-dam
KwaZulu-Natal
Inanda Dam is situated a few kilometres away from the bustling village of Hillcrest. The transition is amazing as you leave the upmarket townhouse complexes behind and enter into the sprawling rural area that surrounds the dam. The narrow tar road leading to the dam is like a snake twisting and turning as you drop down into the valley while you catch glimpses of the dam both to the left and right.
The dam is mainly used for boating and fishing. There is a picnic area next to the dam with slipways all over for launching boats. The camping area offers a few safari tents as well as plenty of space for you to caravan or camp.
Inanda Dam is often associated with the Dusi Canoe Marathon. The paddlers spend their second night here at the dam. Fishing and endurance competitions are also held on and around the dam.
There is a short trail through the Mahlabathini Reserve where one may see various birds and mammals.
Inanda Dam is on the Umgeni River and was constructed in 1989.
