Mpumalanga Province
Afrikaans name: Mpumalanga provinsie
Mpumalanga shares the world-famous Kruger National Park with its neighbouring province Limpopo. There are also many private game reserves offering fantastic game viewing experiences to those with bigger budgets.
The province is also well known for its many waterfalls, mountain scenery and historical towns such as Pilgrims Rest and Barberton. Barberton is famous for the ancient rock formations in the area. They are amongst the oldest geological formations in the world and are a haven for biologists and geologists. It is well worth touring the Panorama Route from Graskop. This will take you to some of the most spectacular sites including the Blyde River Canyon, Mac Mac Falls, Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and Bourkes Luck Potholes.
Nelspruit, also referred to as Mbombela, is the capital of Mpumalanga and many of the provinces attractions can be reached on a day drive from the city. There is no shortage of accommodation in the province and there is something for all tastes and all budgets. Many of the most popular accommodation spots border Kruger National Park making it easy to visit the park for a day.
