Berg-en-Dal Camp, Kruger National Park
Afrikaans name: Berg-en-dal
There is a well-stocked shop and restaurant at Berg-en-Dal Camp
Mpumalanga
The name Berg-en-Dal is Afrikaans for mountain and valley and refers to the hilly area in which this camp is located.
Berg-en-Dal camp is one of the newer camps in Kruger National Park and differs from the others in a number of ways.
Most of the buildings in the camp are made from bricks that were made locally.
The camp is located next to a small man-made dam. Viewing points from inside the camp allow visitors to look for Hippo, Waterbuck, Kudu, White Rhino and African Fish-Eagle amongst others.
Berg-en-Dal has a large number of trees and plants and it is worthwhile spending time walking around the camp. The numerous aloes put on a stunning display of flowers in winter.
Besides hutted accommodation there is a large camp site.
Berg-en-Dal has an extensive camping area (above). In that extensive area I don't think it has a single blade of grass so be prepared for some sand in your kit. Apart from that it is great! Camp sites aren't numbered so you find your own - try get one along the fence. The Matjulu Dam runs along the perimeter of Berg-en-Dal (below). At the restaurant area there are benches where one can sit and keep a look out for animals coming down to drink. In most cases the following distances are calculated using tar roads and there may be shorter routes
