Albert Falls Dam is a great place for picnics and water sports

About 20 km north of Pietermaritzburg, on the road to Greytown, lies Albert Falls Dam and Game Reserve.

This large dam is located on the Mgeni River. When full it has a surface area of over 23 square kilometres. The dam wall is 33 metres high.

The Game Reserve and picnic areas are popular with residents of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. There is a variety of accommodation available for overnight visitors but day visitors are also welcome.

Albert Falls Dam is a popular angling venue with bass being the main attraction. The dam and surrounding thornveld offer good birding and the reserve has a substantial bird checklist. Various mammals may be seen as well including Burchell's Zebra, Blesbok, Nyala and Warthog. Water-skiing is also popular on the dam.

The resort is administered by Msinsi Resorts & Game Reserves.
