The Wildebeest's Review of Freshwater Life

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

In a way this is a strange book as it covers anything, and everything, associated with water and this ranges from bacteria to mammals such as Hippos. It does, however, fulfil its promise of giving you a guide to a wide variety of animal and plant life that you may encounter near any body of water.

So, next time that you go on vacation to a dam, or river, take this book with an it will assist you with the identification of most things that you are likely to see.

“Freshwater Life” documents and illustrates over 1,000 freshwater organisms. Each one has a write up, distribution map and colour photo. The text gives a good description of the species with shorter notes on its size, biology and, in some cases, similar species.

There are also “Introduction” and “Water activities” sections which I found particularly interesting.

The authors have done a really good job on this book which provides you with one book to take with on your trip to a water habitat rather than a small library of specialist books.
