Dinokeng Game Reserve is a new private reserve that was opened in 2011. It is located near Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The reserve is well-stocked with wildlife and including African Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, White Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu, Burchell's Zebra, Warthog and more.

The reserve is a popular birding spot and it boasts a long checklist of species that have been recorded. The checklist includes quite a few raptors including Wahlberg's Eagle, Little Sparrowhawk, Pallid Harrier, Secretarybird, Lizard Buzzard and Ovambo Sparrowhawk.

One can take a drive through the reserve or go on an organised game drive or walk.

The reserve has an extensive road network and generally the roads are in good shape. After heavy rains one might find a few challenging spots if you are in a normal sedan. One of the quirks of this reserve is that some public roads run through the reserve. There are plenty of accommodation options located in and around the reserve. In the reserve one can stay at the Lodge, camp site or self-catering units. You are also able to visit the Dinokeng for a day drive.

The reserve is located just off the N1 highway near Rust de Winter.

Tell us about your visit to Dinokeng.

The Wildebeest thinks that the entry fees, for a self-drive, are rather expensive.
